Cinderella

GLAS&STREET MCS created a family friendly pantomime with a modern twist!! Delighting children from 2 to 92! Buttons (Glynn Webster) made an instant connection with the audience; he was the cheeky chapie with a gentle caring persona making him the perfect friend for Cinderella the girl of his dreams! Cinderella (Lauren Cooper) has a sweet singing voice and a natural innocence in her acting ideally suited to her role, equally matched vocally with her handsome Prince panto veteran James Newton, together singing ‘Take Me As I Am’ they couldn’t fail to melt even the hardest of hearts!

Comedy came in different guises but the most dominant in the form of sisters ugly ‘Hermione and Ginevera’ (Steve Mc Cullagh and Dave Bosner) these two really are masters of their craft! Cruel and funny but never offensive. Comedy highlight was ‘If I Were Not Upon The Stage’. Fairy Godmother (Elspeth Salmon) was given a makeover! Not just a new wand, sequins and glitter! Her alter ego was channelling Cilla Black bringing a new dement ion to the FG! Baroness (Cherrie Lewis) devilishly evil and under the thumb! Baron (Barry Squance) were a perfect match each with their own frailties!

Choreography featured highly in this production touching on different genres stretching these young performers to the max. One of the highlights was the River Dance sequence! The company had a strong line up of principals and each played their part with gusto! Overall singing was strong and it was nice to bring in music which the younger cast and audience relate to! Hermione and Ginevera costumes were beautifully garish! Set design was simple and effective and worked well complementing the overall production with careful attention given to both detail and colour. This was an original take on a family favourite.
