I was delighted to be invited back this year to see Glantawe's pantomime 'Cinderella'. The audience were a-buzz and all was set for a magical evening. I was impressed by the set and the technical side to the show was excellent. The band was tight and in the capable hands of Aled Hopton, Musical Director and Script Writer.
There were some great performance and of course the ensemble must be congratulated on their hard work in supporting the principals.
Jessica McNeil gave a lovely performance as Cinderella, with a great voice and perfect characterisation. Leah Hopkins was a very gallant 'principal boy' as Prince Charming and Lowri Paynter was an excellent Dandini. Sarah Phillips was a suitably evil Baroness and Tim Barrell a suitably put upon Baron! Rhian Lowe was a kindly gentle Godmother who captured the motherliness beautifully.
Special mention must go to an excellent performance by Russell Rees as Buttons, who carried the show with great energy and was loved by the audience, and to the Ugly Sisters. I was very dubious when I saw that one of the Uglies was to be played by a woman, but my fears were very much allayed as the team of Becci Thomas and Lee Bentley were fabulous! Great comic timing, and an obvious rapport between them which is essential in these roles!
Well done to all and I look forward to your next production.
