Friendship Theatre Group delivered a thoroughly entertaining and professionally executed Cinderella at the Ffwrnes, Llanelli, proving once again that high quality panto is thriving in local theatre. From the opening scene to the rousing finale, the production struck an excellent balance between traditional pantomime charm and fresh, lively staging. The show was written and directed by Dean Verbeeck, whose script was packed with humour, heart, and well-judged audience interaction, while never losing sight of the story’s emotional core.

Elysia Coates shone in the title role, bringing warmth, sincerity, and a strong vocal performance to Cinderella. Matthew Tucker was a confident and likeable Prince Charming, pairing well with Elysia and giving their scenes together genuine sparkle. Sean Davies-Jaynes was an energetic and crowd-pleasing Buttons, working the audience superbly and keeping the pace brisk throughout. Comedy was in safe hands with Greg Arthur’s deliciously wicked Baroness Hardup, supported brilliantly by Rhian-Lynne Lewis and Daniella Difede as the hilariously over-the-top Kendall and Kylie Hardup. Together, they provided some of the show’s biggest laughs. Dean Verbeeck also impressed on stage as Dame Dolly Dimple, a role he was sharing with Alan Williams, combining sharp comic timing with real affection for the audience and the genre.

Sarah Arthur’s Fairy Godmother was elegant and warm, adding a touch of magic and calm authority, while Ryan Peters brought flair, comedy timing and charisma to Dandini. Mark Warren’s King Alfred was a steady and likeable presence, grounding the royal scenes with charm and humour.

Musically, the production and band was in excellent hands under Musical Director Andrew Harries, with lively, well-rehearsed and most importantly well-chosen numbers that kept energy levels high. The choreography by Melanie Sullivan was slick and engaging, particularly in the ensemble routines where the Senior Dancers (who appeared to be mid-teens) and Babes Dancers, performed with precision and enthusiasm. Special praise must go to the technical team. The visual spectacle was outstanding, with clever lighting, sound, and staging throughout. The flying horse and carriage was a genuine showstopper, earning audible gasps from the audience and providing a magical highlight that would rival many professional productions. I have come to expect this level of technical standard and I am never disappointed.

Overall, this Cinderella was a joyful, polished, and highly entertaining pantomime that showcased the depth of talent within Friendship Theatre Group. A triumph of teamwork, creativity, and a credit to both the company and the Ffwrnes.

A truly delightful evening of theatre.
