The box office and front of house, as always, was well staffed and welcoming. The house was three quarters full with an enthusiastic audience.

The well designed and attractive programme was very informative, acknowledging their 125th anniversary. As well as full biographies and photos of the cast and crew there was a list of productions dating back to 1897.

The script was written by the musical director, Luke Mulhern, who also led the four piece ensemble on keyboards. Clearly, a very talented CAODS member.

Unfortunately, some of the youngsters did not have the vocal power to match the backing. Although the numbers were all familiar and encouraged some sing-alongs. The choreography was designed to make it straightforward for the youngsters but was nevertheless enjoyable.

The set was effective and ranged from a curtain backdrop to props and furniture depending on the scene. The lighting complimented each scene to good effect.

There were a number of very smooth costume changes for the principal characters but the chorus of youngsters’ changes were sensibly kept to a minimum.

Individual microphones made it easy to hear over the audience’s enthusiastic participation which made for a successful pantomime.

Anita Davies (Fairy Godmother) set the scene for the rest of the show at a good pace. The (Ugly Sisters) namely, Duncan Greaves and Steve Tavener, were suitably ugly and unlovable. Steve Tavener always makes for a wonderful ‘Dame’. Mark Entwistle, (The  Baron ) bumbled his way throughout in a rather endearing manner. Aimee-Rose Howard (Buttons) gave quite a strong performance. Despite needing quite a few prompts she turned that to an advantage by making it almost conspiratorial. Donna Sanson’s (Cinderella) performance was well nuanced which belied her youth. The Prince and Dandini made a great double act and their duologues were performed very confidently. It will be interesting to watch the development of Jay Sangha as he played (Dandini) with confidence and great characterisation.

Overall, it was a very good and enjoyable performance. Judging by the audience enthusiasm it was very well received and did what pantomimes are supposed to do.

Congratulations to everyone involved in this successful production.
