This was a good production of the classic Cinderella story, with traditional cross dressing of Prince, Dandini and Ugly Sisters. A bright and smiley chorus, covered scene changes well with awful – and funny – jokes in front of the curtains. Singing and dancing and peopling the stage, the chorus did much to set the various scenes. It was great to see younger performers and they more than played their parts in the ensemble scenes and as quite charming animals. Pace was maintained with speedy entrances and exits, there were a couple of cracking topical jokes at the expense of our Royal Family – which got the biggest laughs – and the audience participation song, a very inventive and funny version of the Twelve Days of Christmas, was a real highlight. There was a good response from the auditorium with groans at the gags and feedback in the right places. Central characters were mostly strong and carried the narrative along. A good production in simple village hall staging facilities.
