Anyone looking for an antidote for a dismal Summer would have done a lot worse than to go and spend an evening at HATS annual mid-year panto, Cinderella. Mind you tickets will have been scarce towards the end of the weekly run as there was a full house when we saw the show.
I knew we were in for our usual treat as soon as the show started as the costumes were, as always, wonderful and highly colourful. And the regular choreographers did a super job with an enthusiastic cast with their movement to some traditional and several, more modern, musical numbers, all kept short. This was shown extremely well in the Ball scene.
Megan Wilson was a very good Fairy Godmother weaving her magic and Amelia Fletcher was a lovely Cinderella. Russell Fallon showed all his experience as a likeable Buttons and getting himself out of script trouble very well and enjoyably!
Alex Joy was a strong Prince Charming and we saw a superb performance from Matthew Shaw as Dandini. A great mover with some super timing.
The Ugly Sisters were played by Ian Thompson (Chantay) and Phil Wilson (Sashay) and both were excellent making the most of their costumes.
I enjoyed Anna Bant as Diddles, who provided some nice comedic touches and there was back up from Peter Lupton and Margaret Luton as the Baron and Baroness and Jak Waller as the Chamberlain.
An excellent chorus and nice set added to the mood and, this time, the sound was spot on.
Thoroughly entertaining!
