Back into panto land once again! and the best way to brighten up a winter's evening is a night at a Pantomime. Cinderella is one of the best loved of all the traditrional pantomimes with it's rags to riches story of a beautiful downtrodden poor girl that ends up marrying the Prince of her dreams. But this was not a traditional pantomime with Ben Crocker's very modern version with an updated script, we had Prince Charming (Sue Pickering) and Dandini (Tracy Stocks) sword fighting over the hand of Cinderella (Kate Parker). The Fairy Godmother (Rachel Warlop) not only discarding her cloak but also her beautiful skirt and bursting into a tap dance.
Cinderella confidently portrayed her character and sang clearly in her solos and duets with both Prince Charming and Dandini, they both had a good stage pressence and gave an assured performances.
Comedy came in the form of the Ugly Sister Beryl and Cheryl, (James Creggan, Jeremy Handley) an excellent duo along with the Baroness (Jason Sykes). A love sick Buttons, (Chris Nuttall) worked hard and had a good rapport with his audience. No horse or cow in this pantomime we had a delightful mouse, (Jennifer Riordan).
Good Choreography a little repetitive at times but well done, there were two teams the older dancers and the little ones all beautifully dressed at all times.
The transformation scene was most effectively covered by the big tap dance number led by the Fairy Godmother who waved her wand and there was a lovely fairytale coach and a beautifully dressed Cinders.
Colourful costumes, excellent lighting and pyrotechnics, well done Dewsbury.
