To end the year on a high note, I was very pleased to attend the Christmas
Concert Review and Social event, which was held over 2 nights in December,
by the Christchurch Musical Society. The review had been described as
“limited” due to the covid regulations on audience numbers and the controls
that had to be in place, to ensure the safety of both performers and audience,
throughout the evening entertainment.
I can however say without hesitation, that there was nothing limited about the
performance or the joy it gave to the audience. Regulations were closely
followed in the seating of the audience, with table service provided by the cast
and crew. The interaction between the performers and the audience made for
a magical evening that everyone enjoyed.
The programme had such variation, with both solo and whole company
numbers interspersed with duets, instrumentals and comedy sketches, that
took advantage of both the individual talents within the company, while
ensuring that every performer was fully involved.
The cast and stage crew also took responsibility for the serving of refreshments
to each table to maintain safety and to encourage audience participation in the
singing, which everyone enjoyed. The ticket sales were dedicated to the
Macmillan trust as a thank you for the help and support given to a long-time
friend of the society.
Christchurch Musical Society has succeeded in doing what it does best,
maintained the loyalty of its membership, supported the local community,
helped to raise the spirit of a disheartened public and can proudly say that they have done their best to see that the show will go on.
