I was delighted to attend, this my first Christmas Concert, presented by Yeadon Amateurs - usually, something always crops up preventing me from attending, so it has been a bonus to attend and write a report, as your District Reps for Region 11 (Sally Holmes and Pam Booth) were taking part!

As always, the Town Hall was welcoming and members and friends did a grand job front-of-house - there was definitely a feel of Christmas in the air and a buzz of anticipation in the audience. We were not disappointed! Joining a large choir made up of members past and present, from Yeadon and other local societies, the Otley Brass Band made a huge contribution to the evening. The conductor, a flamboyant young man, Will Rowson, led his Band with verve and gusto. They opened the Concert with a selection of popular Christmas songs and carols, which had the audience humming and tapping their feet. The Choir, expertly led by Pam Beck with Andrew Sherlock as their accompanist, gave renditions of old and new carols with full voice and experience.

The evening was compered by the effervescent Helen Clark, (or hindered, in Helen's words!) by her husband, Angelo, who told some fabulously corny 'Christmas Cracker' jokes, much to everyone's amusement. Children from Queensway Junior School made a touching contribution, singing really well and whole-heartedly. There was some audience participation - especially when Helen led the audience with the inevitable 'The Twelve Days of Christmas', causing much hilarity!

Mulled wine and mince pies were offered during the interval and it was lovely to see people chatting and catching up with each other. Yeadon Amateurs put together a 'sparkling' evening of Christmas cheer!
