This Concert was set in Maker with Rame Community Hall in Cornwall and was a delight! Such pleasure from the whole audience at being at a live musical performance once again.

Act I the full company gave a rendition of “Rhythm of Life” and got the concert off to a flying start, “For Good” was sung by Sophie Procter & Anna Dunford and was sung well.

“The Holy Fight” was great, with the whole company, followed by “Cat Like Tread” with Kevin Bennett as soloist

Kevin has a fine voice and shone!

“O False One” sung by Sam Wilson & Karen Rocky was a great rendition, then into the “Finale of Act 1 Pirates of Penzance” that was a showstopper, with wonderful performances by Kevin Bennett, Ryan Procter, Sophie Procter, Anna Dunford and the full Company, a real treat to listen to! It made up in a small way for the sad cancellation of the whole show in2020 due to Covid.

“Bosom Buddies” was sung beautifully by Karen Rocky & Isla Ellis and “Ragtime” with the full company really got toes tapping.

“Out There” sung by Sam Wilson was superb followed by “Olim & Bells of Notre Dame “with Anna Dunford and gave a tantalising taste of “The Hunchback of Notre Dame” the show planned for April at the Devonport Playhouse in Plymouth.

The second half brought a more seasonal flavour to the proceedings and got everyone in the Christmas mood. “Ding Dong”,” Away in a Manger “and” Torches” by the full Company set the tone. Gill Regan, Anna Dunford & Sophie Procter performed a superb rendition of “When a Child is Born” and you could hear a pin drop!

The full Company sang “Masters in this Hall” and then “Oh holy Night” with Gill Regan.

“It Came a Upon a Midnight Clear” Is a favourite and sums up the whole Christmas atmosphere for many. It was sung to perfection.

With a complete change of tone “Santa Baby” with Sophie Procter, Ryan Procter, Kevin Bennett, Sam Wilson & Nico Bray was a joy to listen to!

To end the concert “Carol of the Bells” and” Christmas Medley” were performed with gusto and sent everyone out into the lovely twin villages of Cawsand and Kingsand already festooned with festive lights prepared and eager for Christmas.

The programme was skilfully varied with hints of shows past and shows to come, plus a real beginning to Christmas celebrations and was thoroughly enjoyed by all. The singers were dressed in a variety of outfits, some with a Christmas theme and one headdress which flashed continuously. This had the effect of drawing attention away from other singers and was somewhat distracting, however this was a concert with a high standard of performance, thoroughly enjoyable and with some lovely harmonies. Helen Haviland the M.D and Laura Fox the pianist deserves huge congratulations for bringing this lovely concert to a very appreciative audience All that remains is for me to wish you all a happy and healthy New Year and we all look forward to some great live performances during 2022.
