Children of Eden

Congratulations to Caldicot Musical Theatre Society [CMTS] on their innovative performance of “Children of Eden”. Music and Lyrics by Stephen Schwartz book by John Caird. From the writer of “Wicked”, Children of Eden, it can be said, is not to everyone’s taste, although many of the individual songs have become very popular. I cannot believe however, that the audience having witnessed this show would not have left feeling anything other than they had seen an excellent performance.

There were some outstanding principle performances, as you would expect from this society, with good characterisation and powerful vocals, creating a very emotional atmosphere. The strength of this show must be in the story telling and if any of the audience had doubts on entering, they were certainly fully informed on leaving the theatre.

There are some very strong roles within this show for young performers but also a need for the more mature and experienced members of the society. It is always a privilege to see a performance that brings together all ages within a society and in this show you can see it at its best.

An excellent performance from a very talented company with a great future.
