Cheshire Cats is a comedy play written by Gail Young. It tells the story about a group of Ladies from Cheshire who are planning to take part in the “London Moon Walk”, which is an annual charity event founded in 1998 by Nina Barough to promote a healthy and fit lifestyle and at the same time raises significant funds for vital breast cancer causes. It is a night time walk along the route of the London marathon.

We initially meet the five ladies in training, and we soon see that they have differing expectations of the event. Their self-appointed leader wants a fast time, others want take it steady and just finish the course.   When the sixth unseen member of the group decides to drop out, the balance and politics of the group changes when one of ladies introduces her new young boyfriend as a late replacement.

It was without doubt an excellent play. Having researched the story I was expecting an evening that was a rollercoaster of emotions.   The comedy was superb, but there was also quiet, thought provoking, outstanding moments, that were superbly performed, when many of the audience, my wife and I included, shed a quiet tear.

The six Cheshire cats were all excellent, wonderful individual characters that the audience took to their hearts, they were well balance team. There was also great support by the team playing all the minor roles policemen, marshals, supporters, the local drunk, several outstanding cameo roles, which provided lots of laughter.

This was P & P players at their very best, and the performance was extra special because it highlighted a cause, that has affected many of our lives.
