A lovely evening spent with two reputable companies as they joined together to give us an evening of sheer Drama entertainment. The presentation of the first one act play as part of the COMEDY NIGHT was a good choice. Set in a pub, the set was minimal which was just right for the occasion.
We ‘eavesdropped’ into four conversations which rose above the background chatter during the pub lounge opening hours. This was a glimpse of black comedy set in four different situations and each one left us with questions. Janine and Caroline played by Sue Buckley and Sharon Huxley respectively, worked well together and left us thoughtful of their whole future. Paul and Emma met on the internet and found they had much in common, Chris Jolley and Lisa Wingate brought us the second encounter. It seemed as though Andrea Critchley, played by Beryl Jolley, met her match when being interviewed by the inquisitive journalist Kathy Helen Garner, who was like a dog with a bone on some issues. Ben Huxley as Joe, breezed into the lounge with quite a demanding foreign accent and sporting a suspicious looking haversack on his back. It was all Simon, played by Malcolm Godfrey, could do was to calm him down and eventually Joe’s mask melted.
Alan Dixon took the role of Publican and Addie Davies was a competent Bar Person.
A short but well directed piece of black comedy which was well received by an appreciative audience and made us all put our thinking caps on.
Thank you Colwyn Abbey Players and congratulations to all concerned.
