This was the third production of Calendar Girls in three weeks, but it was as fresh as the first time I saw it. The play requires two sets the hall and the hill, but it does not allow much time for a change; in this instance it was managed efficiently, bringing in the gauze to mask the hall, lighting it well and using good sound effects to create the out doors. The Hall set had been well interpreted, constructed and dressed to create the feel of that type of hall. The properties team had worked hard to source the vast number of items required. The Hall set had been well interpreted, constructed and dressed to create the feel of that type of hall. The necessary costume changes to indicate ‘time passing’ were very quick and did not slow down the momentum. The play had been well cast and director Rod Morris had worked hard with everyone to develop well rounded totally believable characters. It is always important for the cast to gel well as a team, but particularly in this play with the intimacy involved, and they obviously had achieved this, interacting and responding to the various situations. The most complicated scene is obviously the taking of the photographs; it was very well handled and the audience really enjoyed it. Timing and pace were excellent throughout; the audience were able to respond with laughter and applause without loosing any of the dialogue. You created a good balance of pathos and humour. Congratulations to everyone on an excellent evening’s entertainment.
