This production started as it meant to go on. The opening number ‘Yorkshire’ started with one man and built and built until we met the whole company. What an opening under the baton of the talented Musical Director, Ian Gude, and this was just a taste of what was to come. The vocals from the company and principals alike were very impressive.
I think we all now know the touching and emotional story of Calendar Girls and the journey the ladies of the local Women’s Institute undertook. There were some wonderful performances all round starting with Annie (Alison Wade) and Chris (Lucy Weaver) who were outstanding and both delivered the highs and lows of the storyline with great warmth and pathos. They were suitably supported by Cora (Karen Fuller), Jessie (Trish Lampard), Celia (Amy Donald) and Ruth (Claire Stanley) who were all brave, well cast and delivered some wonderful characterisations. Adding to this talented group of ladies was Marie (Emma Oates) the matriarch of the Women’s Institute.
The talented ladies were complimented by John (Russell Horsfall), Rod (Michael Tattersall), Lawrence (Patrick James), Colin (David Hermon) and Denis (Phil Walsh). Not forgetting the youthful and talented element of this production we had Jenny (Lillie-May Till), Danny (Reece Sanders-Johnson) and Tommo (Reuben Clayton) all giving very strong rounded performances. Some minor but equally important parts were Brenda Hulse (Frances Lister), Lady Cravenshire (Janet Foster), Miss Coffee Wilson (Karen Powell) and Miss Tea Wilson (Wendy Hermon).
This production for me delivered on every level and I must congratulate the Director, Tracey Bell, Musical Director, Ian Gude and Movement Coordinator, Stephen Snaith.
Thank you so much DSP on a wonderful evenings entertainment.
