It is such a joy to have live theatre back in our local theatres and I was delighted to know that Calamity Jane, a great favourite of mine, was your choice of production. I was most impressed by all aspects of the show and felt that this was one of the finest ‘Musicals’ that I have seen your company produce. Panto has always been your forte so it was great to see your ‘Musicals’ showing the same success.
My congratulations must go to the senior production team of directors and musical director. who all executed their tasks with skill and imagination. The choreography was simple and effective and made excellent use of the stage space available. The direction of principals was inventive, particularly given the small number of them on stage at any given time. The music was not too loud and provided a beautiful accompaniment to well sung songs.
Marie Ball was outstanding as Calamity, Stuart McAdams and Kelly Manchee were both ideally cast as Bill Hickok and Katie Brown and the other principals acted with conviction and sang with great clarity. It was nice to see a chorus made up of very varied age groups who all put so much energy into the musical numbers. There were times when the stage looked a little overcrowded but it didn’t detract from the whole. Well done.
