Brassed off is based on a true story set in the village of Grimley in North Yorkshire 10 years after the miner's strike.  The strong story line and excellent script was adapted by Paul Allen from Mark Herman's screenplay.

There is uncertainty in ther community due to the pit being under the threat of closure.  It brings into focus the hardship encountered by the struggling mining community.  Set in 1994 facing the consequences of the Thatcher government they fight to save their jobs. This play is funny and poignant at the same ti

Veteran Bandmaster Danny is a former miner with a lung condidtion,  it has always been Danny's life-long ambition to lead the Grimley Colliery Band to the National Brass Band Competition in London at the Royal Albert Hall.

The play was convincingly narrated by Shane, (Linton Clough) Phil's son, his warring parents Phil and Sandra, (Martin Welsh, Lindsey Clough) worked well together, Phil gave an excellent portrayal always in trouble with his finances and a failing marriage.  Good character performance from Danny, (Roy Greenwood) as his health deteriorated, he just lived for his music, the band was everything to him.  Excellent comedy from Jim and Henry, (John Fisher, James Creegan) both under the thumb of their wives Rita and Vera, (Vickie Hawkins, Alice Dabrowska) but the four of them together oozed comedy.  The love interest sexy Gloria and Andy, (Ysanne Morill, Elliott Matthews) in, out and back in love again, were perfectly matched.

The set worked well, just turning the flats around quickly to make different rooms.  A thought provoking evening, with emotions running high throughout the production.  Good playing from the Clifton and Lightcliffe Brass Band.  Well Done!
