It is refreshing to see a play with a serious subject as the central theme. So many companies stick to comedy when it comes to choosing a play. Well done Concept for tackling this deep, gritty and emotional piece of theatre.
I was impressed by the build up prior to the performance with action on stage as the audience took their seats, we watched with interest and could feel the tension.
This was a team on stage, all working with their emotions to give realistic credence.
Nerys Rees gave an excellent and moving performance of Mrs Johnstone, showing her apathy and the hopelessness of her predictable life. In contrast Cathryn Rose as Mrs Lyons brought out her class distinction characterisation very well with her desperation for a child well played .
The Brothers gave us humour, forever friendship and their tragic lives pulled apart yet the strong invisible bond. Very good performances from Stephen Hopkins as Eddie and Richard Thomas as Mickey
The Narrator Chris Dimbleby kept up the accent throughout to his credit, though a little inaudible at times and we needed to hear this vital story. Fern O Brien-Grant as Linda also gave a good performance The simple set and lighting worked very well.
Well directed by Shane Rose-Goodsir.
Exceptional Concept Players proved once again how versatile this company is, which always presents us with an original take on any work they undertake.
We look forward to your next production!
