This Blackadder production set in the Elizabethan era, is one of Britain’s most popular TV comedies and Riverside Players' performance offered a fitting tribute to this iconic show. Consisting of three acts, there were some innovative thematic touches, which, especially to the initiated, were appreciated. The staging, props, and colourful costumes gave an authentic feel to the whole performance and the enthusiasm which emanated from all involved made for a well-paced production. Renditions from the Singing Wanderer offered another dimension to this well-choreographed performance.  The characters were colourful and so was some of the language. It was full of satire and cynicism and all played their parts convincingly. There were some clever little prop ideas and it was so well cast that the audience were left thinking they had seen the ‘real thing’.
