After 18-months of Covid-related postponements, it was a welcome relief to once again visit with Barnes Community Players’ (BCP). Whilst I was regrettably unable to attend a performance at the OSO, I was very pleased to see that this production had been extended to include the Queen Charlotte Hall in Twickenham.

Blackadder was a sitcom phenomenon that became a staple part of the nation’s television diet in the mid-1980s. Its humour has continued to span the years and is as fresh today as it was then. This is an absolute comedy classic and I was very much looking forward to seeing how BCP would handle this challenge. The decision to stage Beer, Head and Money - three wonderful episodes from Series II made for a very promising evening’s entertainment. Congratulations must first be given to BCP for staging such a well-known, and much-loved, TV show. Also, for attempting to manage the audiences’ expectations which were undoubtedly going to be high.

All of the roles were brought to life, across the three episodes, by a talented set of actors who obviously had great fun in portraying these absurd set of characters. Everyone involved showed great enthusiasm, maintained their characters at all times and ensured the audience left having been well entertained.

Overall, an enjoyable evening with BCP and Blackadder II. Congratulations to everyone involved for finally staging this production after such a lengthy delay. I hope you all enjoyed it as much as the audience.
