Blithe Spirit is a witty clever play, very much in the Noel Coward mould, and this company are to be admired for the amount of many and varied shows they stage during the year.
The sets created by Exmouth players rarely disappoint and this one was done in great detail, for which they should be congratulated. The props and effects were excellent and deserve a special mention. Edith the maid gave a humorous performance with excellent timing. Madame Arcati took command as soon a she came on stage and the well-loved character was portrayed with skill. Dr Bradman and Mrs Bradman complimented each other well and gave good performances Elvira looked every inch the ghost enhanced by extremely good dressing. The performance was polished and very entertaining. The part of the other Mrs Condomine was very well played and like all the other characters was dressed expertly and in the period. Charles Condomine has a lot of dialogue and it needs to flow. Unfortunately on the night I attended fifty prompts were required which had an adverse effect on the pace and continuity required for this play. This actor is a stalwart and talented member of the company and has taken some very entertaining parts in past productions but on this occasion it seemed he had taken on a role which stretched him a bit too far. A valiant effort, however, and despite the above a very enjoyable performance of this popular play and another success for this busy and dedicated small company.
