This is a most unusual show set in war torn Britain around 1947 full of fun which I am sure most societies would enjoy producing and for certain Kippax Amateurs did. There are lots of parts that would suit most societies. The two major roles were played by Fraser Wilkinson as Gilbert Chilvers and by Victoria Goff as Joyce Chilvers. Fraser (Gilbert Chilvers) gave a most enjoyable performance as the somewhat befuddled evangelistic chiropodist in a small town, a most studied portrayal I felt. Victoria Goff ( Joyce Chilvers) as his very dominating social climbing wife was absolutely brilliant, a most enjoyable performance. Josie Mawson (Mother Dear) was fine as the very underfed hungry mother of Joyce, a most enjoyable performance. James Sidgwick (Dr.James Swaby), Mark Rogers (Henry Allardyce) and Keith Speight (Frances Lockwood) the Town Councillors were excellently cast as was Steve Parker (Sutcliffe). Mark Waters (Mr. Wormald), Sue Silkstone (Mrs. Metcalf) and John Hewitt (Sergeant Noble) all played their roles in fine style. The orchestra was very well controlled and the chorus numbers well sung. Unfortunately the show does not have any showstopping numbers for the audience to remember as they go home but a most enjoyable production.
