Basingstoke Gang Show 2016 is the 25th gang show to be produced by these amazing organisations. Their production every 2 years is a mammoth task bringing together this year 64 cast members ranging in age from 8 to 22 with an average age of 13. Their youngest cast in the history of the Basingstoke Gang Show. The content of the show came out of brainstorming sessions with the 70 or more volunteers. There were so many original ideas and performances I am loathe to pick an individual item. From the ‘a capella’ group singing through the evolution of music to the girls bouncing on mini trampolines under the title of Gravity! – the show had appeal for all age groups and tastes.
The programme is a treasure particularly for those involved. Credit is given to all those involved for their input and commitment. The stage crew are to be congratulated for their tremendous contribution to this show. A professional company would have been proud of the many effects that were created both on stage and on screen. The creative scenery and props only served to enhance the production but not overwhelm the action. The integration of live with recorded music really suited this type of production.
The Chairman’s comment on their website is the aim of the show is to “to enable the cast to reach their full potential, as they develop their self-confidence, self-discipline, teamwork and trust, as well as make friends for life through a truly amazing shared experience”. This production truly reflected that aim. It had pace and energy throughout; delivered by an enthusiastic ensemble and a talented cast of lead performers. The ”Gang” appeared to be totally immersed in their performances throughout. The producer and her team are to be congratulated on bringing all their ideas together to deliver such a well-crafted show full of variety which gave all of the youngsters an opportunity to shine. Ralph Reader would have been so thrilled. Basingstoke Gang Show should be thoroughly proud of their achievement and prepare for even greater successes in the future.
