BAOS at 100

BAOS at 100 was performed by a company of 77, 30 of those being from Limelight, the BAOS youth section.   It was a show full of reflection, classic oldies, modern music, toe tapping songs, soaring ballads, music from a live band, humorous continuity from Ryan Stevens and an excellent showcase of why BAOS were able to look back on 100 years of musical theatre excellence. This was a variety show full of warmth and talent.

BAOS members were smartly dressed: men in suits and women in black dresses.   Limelighters wore celebratory t-shirts.    

 The lighting was well controlled and effective.  The cast sounded terrific from start to finish.  The music from the orchestra was under the direction of three Musical Directors and that enabled the wealth of talent available to BAOS to be fully utilised.    

BAOS at 100 was an ambitious venture to undertake, but the production team and cast rose to the challenge with aplomb.  This was a great show with a lot of strong individual performances as well as a huge sense of teamwork, friendship and camaraderie.  There were well polished routines performed with confidence and passion.  The evening opened with a selection from Gilbert and Sullivan operas, reflecting the origin of the group.  This moved into traditional Broadway musicals including Carousel, Annie Get Your Gun, and Fiddler on the Roof.   The second half opened with Limelight displaying their talent with songs from some of their productions including the Addams Family, Evita and Into the Woods.  This was an evening when the audience went home captivated and enriched by the dedication and professionalism of this hugely talented group.   Congratulations to all in producing such a worthy celebration of 100 years of Musical Theatre in Basingstoke.
