I hesitate to call this a concert but a wonderful, dynamic production with an excellent choice of songs from Award-Winning Musicals.

Apart from first class singing by all, each number was perfectly choreographed so that the entire company moved or danced with ease creating the appropriate mood and style to suit the scene. This was a high energy production both vocally and in action which provided opportunities for everyone to perform either as a soloist or as part of an ensemble.

The programme had been perfectly compiled with musical numbers which were more well known interspersed with numbers which were certainly unfamiliar to me resulting in a most interesting combination of song and dance.

‘Rhythm of the Night’ with its pulsing rhythm got the evening off to a cracking start and conveyed the buzz and animation in the cast which was maintained throughout the evening. ’Flash Bang Wallop’, ’A Selected Medley’ from Mamma Mia and ‘Starlight Express Megamix’ were a few examples which highlighted the strength of the company singing and the intricate choreography which perfectly suited each number. The gospel choir rendition of a  most powerful ‘Holy Holy Queen’ with the cast spread across the front of the stage showcased the strength of the choral singing with harmonies coming across loud and clear.

The company is very fortunate too in having many talented individual performers. ‘Skyfall’ was stunning, ‘Six’, a real favourite, was vivacious, ‘Money’ had great character and ‘Shallow’ showcased two voices which blended beautifully. I did enjoy ‘I Wish I Could Go Back To College’ which was sung with such sincerity as was the contrasting ‘Teenager In Love’ and the somewhat innocent ‘Dammit Janet!’

The ladies of the company didn’t hold back with ‘Omigod, You Guys!’ which was vibrant and vivacious almost becoming frenzied as the chorus built up. The male chorus too was most convincing as they objected to ‘He Could Be A Star.’

‘Michael In The Bathroom’ was a number which was new to me and this emotive number made me feel quite sorry for poor Michael. ‘Someone Gets Hurt‘ was also put across with real passion. ‘We Both Reached For the Gun’ was so well delivered with it’s clever puppetry. The three Fiona’s singing ‘I Know It’s Today’ were  quite charming. ‘Let’s Hear It For The Boy’ gave us a taste of  what to look forward to in next years production of Footloose.

The many other numbers were all performed with real strength and commitment exhibiting the superb vocal quality and talent of so many individuals. ‘One Vision’ from We Will Rock You was a fitting conclusion to this Fringe Concert which most certainly did rock along.

Excellent singing from a most accomplished company who rarely stood still but peformed with utter conviction throughout the evening. The small three piece band was also in fine form and enhanced each musical number.

Many congratulations to all cast members and the production team in delivering a thoroughly entertaining production which I enjoyed immensely.
