This stripped back version of Assassins (just three musicians) brimmed with original ideas and a strong line up of principals. There is no questioning the ambition of the production. Reactions to it will have been mixed, not unaffected by the show itself but also because of its composer/lyricist. In spite of critical acclaim, Sondheim’s work is not universally popular but there was plenty in this production to delight the aficionado.
