A bright, happy show with lots of humour, good tunes and splendid dancing, presented by a company who seemed to enjoy it as much as we did. As the whole story is enacted on the S.S. American during the week of the Atlantic crossing in the 1930's, we were treated to some excellent characters and some wonderful fashions with the costumes.
A quite starchy but fashionable Mrs Harcourt (Melanie Brockway) and her lovely daughter Hope (Sophie Hughes), who sang beautifully, were travelling to England with Sir Evelyn (Nick Turner) where he and Hope were to be married. But old flame Billy (Scott Armstrong) stows away and tries to separate the two with the help of Reno Sweeney (Rebecca Cawthra) a night club owner/evangelist and her four Angels, who sang and danced some great numbers along with the dance team of sailors. Public enemy 13 Moonface (Dan Sean Henry) and his girl Bonnie (Leanne Harrison) caused a lot of amusement as they tried to hide Billy with various disguises, involving Billy's boss Whitney (Billy Walker) along the way and two Chinese gamblers who ended up in the Brig. Of course it all ended happily as all good comedy musicals should. It was a well presented and thoroughly entertaining show which would suit all comers.
