With a good main set, and with insets well used, great singing and dancing, good costumes and enthusiasm from all, this was an enjoyable evening’s entertainment. This is a show full of some of Porter’s best loved songs, with plenty of characters and the opportunity for big ensemble numbers and dancing and Havering delivered this well. However, the book itself can come across as a little flimsy. The comic vignettes really need sharp delivery and quick cuing to maintain the pace and some of the less experienced performers needed more guidance here, for me. However the principal characters were well established and there were some excellent solos, duets and the really good ensemble numbers I have come to expect from this group. The dance routines were all good with some excellent tap dancing and the whole company moving so well in time, to the big band sound from the orchestra.
