Thank you for inviting me to your production of Annie JR and thank you to Emily for the very warm welcome. This was my first time joining First Impressions Theatre and I very much enjoyed the show and all the wonderful performances.
The director had obviously worked very hard to inspire this large cast to learn their parts, develop their characters and American accents and to deliver what was a wonderful show. The principals had been well cast and had clear definitions in their characterisations. They projected well, speaking with good clarity and volume. All of the cast were brilliant, but I must add that the young lady playing Annie gave a truly wonderful performance.
The MD brought out the very best in this group of youngsters who sang with wonderful tuning, dynamics and expression. All the cast, principals and ensemble alike, sang with confidence and obvious enjoyment. Their diction was clear and they really performed the songs with character. I really enjoyed the dance routines that the choreographer had created. They were imaginative and engaging and all the cast down to the youngest knew all the moves and were on the beat. There are obviously some excellent dancers in the group who danced with great fluidity, finishing their lines exquisitely. All the dance numbers, physicality and movement had been well designed for the group and everyone moved and danced with energy and enjoyment.
Even more importantly, everyone looked to be having a wonderful time on stage! The staging and costumes had been cleverly designed for the large cast, adding interest and colour to the show. The lasting impression of this show was a stage filled with energy, enthusiasm and joy from all the young performers and was such a treat to watch. Meeting and chatting to some of the parents before the show and seeing the look of joy on everyone’s faces after it, reminded me what a pleasure it is to see your children on stage at the beginning of their theatre journeys.
