The story of orphan Annie is a well loved one, set in a New York City girls' orphanage in 1933, in the depths of the Depression, Annie escapes to find her parents whom she believes to be still alive.

Mali Charles – Annie – Annie is perhaps the most demanding role for a young performer, and for someone in her first major role, gave a most convincing performance, confident in singing and acting and coping most admirably. Good stage presence and a lovely warm acting style which was perfect for the role.

The orphans –  Alice Shearan [Molly], Imogen Shearan [Pepper]. Seren Jones [Duffy], Scarlett BImogen Allan [July], Rosie Holt [Tessie] and Daisy John [Kate] were all well disciplined, each having good facial expressions and great characterisations.

Calum Donoghue – Oliver Warbucks – Oliver Warbucks is a multi-faceted role which for an adult to play would not be an easy ride, but Calum performed it well and made everyone believe in him. Clear diction, strong stage presence and a well rounded performance.

Elsewhere, there was some very strong support from Ela-Haf Griffiths as Grace Farrell, Sofia Lang as the vile Miss Hannigan, Daniel Bevan as her loathsome brother Rooster and Lily Roberts as his stupid dumb blond girlfriend Lily. All playing their respective characters with ease.

Costumes were in keeping with the era and lighting added to the overall feel of the production. I particularly liked the projections used.

Well done to the stage crew who ensured swift changing of scenes as they worked hard to keep everything running smoothly and safely for these young performers.

Congratulations to the Curtain Up production team of Ruth, Sarah, Sue and Clare on another memorable production.

This was my final official visit as NODA Rep to Curtain Up Youth Theatre, therefore I want to take this opportunity to thank you all for your hospitality over the years.
