T.O.A.D.S always set a good standard and this show was no exception. It got off to a cracking start with a set most theatre companies would die for, the front porch of the Wilson Hotel looking very good indeed, congratulations to the scenery team.
Charlie Davenport looked and acted the part with great skill and stage presence as did Dolly Tate who had a singing voice to go with the verve and vivacity the role requires Frank Butler had a very good singing voice ,however the low notes needed a bit more depth and the swaggering and arrogant persona that should epitomise this character, especially at the start of the show was missing. Nonetheless a nice performance generally.
Annie was superb in every way, taking over the stage with sparkling characterisation and a superb singing voice, every number performed with style and conviction Buffalo Bill did extremely well, as did Chief Sitting Bull and Pawnee Bill. Ma Wilson looked and sounded every inch the role and a special mention of Nelly, Little Jake, Jessie and Mini. They not only looked and acted like little urchins, but could dance as well. Well done to them.
The Orchestra (under the baton of M.D John Amery) was excellent ; sounded really great and was not too intrusive. The choreography was extremely good throughout, particularly when the stage was filled and a great example of this was scene 5, the Indian ceremony.
The Director should be congratulated on a show very well done. Thank you T.O.A.D.S for a splendid evening of great entertainment.
