LMS was honoured with an invitation to present their show as part of the 2013 City of Culture year.
Jim Goodman’s orchestra was a treat to hear. Venessa’s choreography was exciting and innovative - especially ‘Hard Knock Life’, ‘Never Fully Dressed’ and ‘Hooverville’. Muire McCallion played Miss Hannigan with great comic timing, contrasting wonderfully with the prim Grace Farrell (Katie Patton). Kris Doherty did not seem entirely comfortable as Oliver Warbucks although he sang well and had the courage to shave his head! Simon Quigg, as Drake, stood out among the servants and other supporting roles were enthusiastically covered. The ‘orphans’ lit up the stage and never fell out of character. I was captivated by Molly (Kate McCafferty) - definitely a future star! Stars of the past were in evidence in the White House Cabinet room – they have not lost their charisma!
More charisma was on show from Aoibheann Biddle (Lily St.Regis) and David Keown (Rooster) who nearly stole the show. Lauryn Mulholland played the title role of Annie with natural charm. Her dialogue was clear and her singing delightful.
Full stage sets for the Orphanage and Warbuck’s Mansion were changed efficiently and props were good although I thought the mansion needed more furniture. Costumes were excellent and Lighting was fine. Sound really let the society down with mic cues missed and mic breakdown.
Deigh did a great job in the vast temporary arena. The matinee I attended was full of young children and the show kept their attention throughout.
