Heckmondwike Players were very fortunate to have a superb Annie (Sophie Hardhill) and a great Daddy Warbucks (Stephen Jamieson), both characters are to be congratulated for their memorable performances. I don't think I have ever heard an Annie with such a strong clear voice and along with Daddy Warbucks it was a pleasure to listen to them and see the chemistry flow between them. The company were well supported with a talented team of Orphans, all of whom played their parts with great enthusiasm (all sixteen of them).Their 'Hard Knock Life' made a good start to the production and set the scene for the rest of the evening. A very tipsy OTT Miss Hannigan (Ellen Ball) never slipped out of character for one second. Strong support came from all the other principals. Good backing from the chorus, although I don't think they were dirty enough and the costumes a little too good for the down and outs. The orchestra did play a little too loud in the first Act over the dialogue and unfortunately we did lose the words at that point. The production moved along nicely maintaining a good momentum throughout. Complimentary lighting and sound helped to make this an enjoyable production. It was great to see a full house, so rare these days. Well done.
