As always it was a pleasure to have visited with Edge Hill Players once again for their production of Annie. I arrived today, with my guest, anticipating another enjoyable evening’s entertainment and with high expectations. The usual warm welcome from your Front of House Team coupled with a buoyant auditorium certainly gave the impression of a thriving and well-supported society!

Set in New York in 1933, during the Great Depression, Annie brings to life the adventures of an eleven-year-old red-haired orphan. Under the control of a drunken and ruthless Miss Hannigan, Annie clings onto the belief that one day her parents will one day return for her. When Annie goes to spend Christmas at billionaire Mr. Warbuck’s house an unexpected friendship quickly develops.  Miss Hannigan, together with her no-good brother Rooster and his girlfriend, concoct a plan to swindle Mr Warbucks and dispose of Annie…

M-C Lindsay must first and foremost be congratulated for her role as Director. The cast had carefully assembled, meticulously well-rehearsed and was ultimately a pleasure to watch performing on stage. There was a genuine warmth in this production and performances felt authentic, from the youngest orphans to the seasoned leads. Creative staging kept the show dynamic while staying true to the beloved story. From start to finish the amount of time, effort and attention to detail were obvious to see. I found the whole production to be highly polished, heartfelt and a resounding success.

As always, it is important to recognise the energy, commitment and quality demonstrated by the entire cast and not simply those in leading roles. There was excellent support throughout with quality vocals, harmonies and dancing/movement on display. There was also a genuine look of happiness of all those performing. This was a hugely slick, well-paced production that hosted a talented cast and ensemble. Every actor on the stage was precise and every scene appeared to have been rehearsed to perfection. Dance routines were fabulous, the pinpoint precision of the ensemble during ‘I Think I’m Gonna Like It Here,’ was exceptional.

Congratulations to everyone at Edge Hill Players on another outstanding success, and best of luck with your February 2026 pantomime, Puss in Boots. I look forward to future invitations and reviewing what I’m sure will continue to be highly entertaining and top-quality productions.
