Because of very busy week, I choose to visit Musical Theatre Salisbury production of “Annie” for the final performance of it run, a Sunday Matinee, and what a pleasure it was to find that Salisbury City Hall was sold out.

I hold wonderful memories of “Annie” having been lucky enough to have played Daddy Warbucks in 1989 and 2005. I was also stage manager for a youth production in 2015 and as the curtains opened, I recognised the set and thought “I am glad that I have not had to put that lot together again”!

This was a very enjoyable show, although I am not certain which team of children were performing, they were all superb. The young lady playing “Annie” was very confident and commanded the stage throughout with an excellent performance

It my opinion Daddy Warbucks and Grace looked far too young, but their overall performances were fabulous. I enjoyed the portrayal of Miss Hannigan and I thought that Lily St Regis and Rooster were both outstanding.

The chorus were well drill and I personally thought that all the minor roles were portrayed to perfection. The excellent harmony singing of “Tomorrow” at the end of the scene in the presidential office was, one of the highlights’ of the show. I have never heard it sang better.

The orchestra was well balance and for a change I did not notice any problems with the sound, well done.

As one would expect with a show like “ Annie “ about fifty percent of the capacity audience were children and there seemed to be a constant stream of them going in and out of the auditorium to use the facilities, which was very distracting at times. But in the words of the MTS Vice -President “Every seat sold that afternoon was profit, so that is the most important thing “.
