It was lovely to join you MDS for their production of And Then There Were None and thank you as always to the front of house team for making me feel so welcome.
This is an iconic Agatha Christie story such that many of the audience probably knew already ‘who did it’, however that did not detract from the drama that unfolded. The story involves eight guests who have never met each other lured by a cryptic invitation to a deserted island and marooned, along with two house servants. On the first night, a gramophone recording is played identifying each one of their crimes and gradually and inevitably they all meet their end!
Overall, this was a good production, full of mystery and some strong performances. The director had worked with the cast to develop their individual characters which they did very well and ensured that they worked cohesively together. The play is very wordy, but the pace of the piece was good throughout and together with great comic timing helped to keep the audience guessing until the end. The stage at St John’s Hall is relatively small but the director had done a clever job of blocking the action around the furniture without cast members blocking each other. The doors were all used effectively, and each member of the cast left and returned through the right doors! Although I kept my eye on the mantel piece knowing that the china soldiers would disappear one by one, I never once noticed one disappear!
