P & P Players provided yet another enjoyable and a very entertaining evening with two “One Act Plays”
The directors must spend many hours researching and choosing the individual plays ,but they always come up trumps.
The first play of the evening was “None The Wiser” a wonderful comedy written by Anthony Booth and directed by Clare l’Anson. A group of four shoplifters posing as nuns are living in a rented property whilst they are working their scam throughout the local area. When two other nuns come knocking chaos ensures as they try to pass themselves off as genuine nuns. Eventually we learn that the two new arrivals are also shoplifters working the same scam, for the same boss. It proved to be a very funny play with lots of great comedy moments, delivered by six excellent actors who each gave a fabulous individual performance.
The second play was completely different. “The Right Honourable Lady” a political drama written by Francis Beckett. A journalist has been tasked with digging the dirt on an old personal friend who is now a Secretary of State. During the play we not only learn about illicit affairs which threatens to destroy careers but also alleged corruption that could bring about the downfall of the government . This excellent play had a cast of five who also all gave fabulous performances as they demonstrated an insight as to what games are played in politics.
Unfortunately the lighting for the second play was not ideal, causing a lot of black shadows which I did find a little distracting. I do realise that is a problem with this venue but I felt that the director could have made some slight adjustments when they became aware of the problem.
A wonderful evening that the audience clearly enjoyed as much as I did. Once again my congratulations go to all concerned
