This was another very enjoyable evening in the company of the P & P Players

The first play of the evening was “No Knowing” by Alan Ayckbourn which was well directed by Chris Roberts

This a wonderful comedy offers an insight into a couple’s marriage on their  40th wedding anniversary and referring back to the previous Christmas, which offers a very different perspective of the couple's marriage as their secrets are revealed to each of them by their children

Arthurs’ welcome speech  leads us to think they have had a pretty ordinary marriage.   However, the  two flash backs ,within the play, show all is not how it seems.

The play has some very funny dialogue that was perfectly delivered by the four excellent cast members , I thought the portrayal of their characters was outstanding.

One of the highlights for me, was the scene  with Elspeth and her daughter Alison.  I am sure that between them they consumed well over a bottle and half of “White Wine” as Alison slowly became intoxicated. I am sure it was not real wine, but whatever they were drinking,  It was certainly a wonderful scene

I realise that many of Ackbourn’s plays do have a northern theme and I thought that the cast had very good “ northern accents”.  However, I am sure that it would have been easier for them, and just as successful, if they had performed the play with their own local Dorset accents

The second half of the evening was “ The Luvvies” a play written by Lynn Britteny  and well directed by Clare l’Anson . The story line is centred on a team seven members of The Horbridge Amateur Dramatic Society, who are attending a movie themed quiz night.

It is quite a static play, as they are all mostly sat at a table. However they are a varied mix of characters, all-consuming various types of drink and the language is very colourful in places , and the charity swear box on their table gets well used.

This was another very funny excellent play,  Each character had their moment in the spot light with various sulks and tantrums. It provided wonderful individual performances from all of the cast. to make a very enjoyable play.

Congratulations to all concerned for a lovely evening
