After the enforced two year break due to Covid 19, It was indeed a great pleasure to once again be able to attend this P&P players production of two one act plays
The first play was “ The Last Group “ a drama written by Alison Gilmour ,and directed by Clare l’Anson.
The Group in question is an Art Therapy class, held at an old local run down hospital, for people who are suffering from the severe effects of depression. The members attend weekly to discuss their problems and express their feelings with their various styles of art work.
The four established members of the group , two male and two female , arrive at their class, to find that their class tutor is not there, therefore the members seem to be unsettled, and unsure how to proceed until the tutor arrives. When a new young new member arrives to join the group, he certainly creates tension and upsets the balance of the group with his mannerism .
Performed on a raised dais with no scenery and few props, it proved to be a very enjoyable play. It was well acted which good characterisations from the cast, the story line was thought provoking and deep in places, but at the same time it produced some nice light hearted moments.
The second play was “Lockdown In Little Grimley “ a comedy written by David Tristram, and directed by Chris Roberts
Little Grimley plays all seem to start with the same tried and test formula .The Four committee members of the local drama group, Bernard, Margaret, Gordon and Joyce are meeting to discuss ideas for their next production. On the occasion , after the Covid 19 lockdown, Gordon has an idea that he will bring to raise money for the NHS
This was an excellent comedy that brought to us the best of Covid19, Toilet roll shortages, face masks, social distancing and hand gel. It was well performed by the four excellent cast members , the timing and delivery of the script had the audience full of laughter throughout.
This was my first visit to “The Spire” which is an ideal multi-purpose venue in the centre of Poole . This was a thoroughly enjoyable evening so it was rather disappointed that it was not better attended. Very well done to all concerned
