Every society has stalwarts, members who hold everything together with their enthusiasm and drive and in all circumstances keep going.
This is EVODS merry band. This company have now turned to drama, situation comedy, which goes down very well with their audiences, even more so on a cold winter night when we all need our spirits lifting!
First play was Departure by Stephen Smith and we can all relate to this play, the consequences of striking up a chance conversation in the departure lounge of any airport sometimes a good experience and others as portrayed here, to our detriment!
All four actors worked extremely well together, good timing, building the tension mixed with endurance. Julie Wyatt excellent as Rosemary Gibbs oblivious to her own tactless comments and the effect they have, a perfect foil was her not so bright daughter hanging on her every word, well done Mandy Phillips as Mandy Gibbs. Then the couple with the ailing marriage the holiday was supposed to revive, Sheila Tippett the long suffering wife a good part played by Sharon Williams, interacting with Dennis Tippet played very well by Alex Mc Intosh who built this character to give his final end of his tether outburst admirably, blowing his top an understatement!
Great comedy, a very good play.
The second play was Split Ends by Frank Vickery
No one creates situation comedy like Frank Vickery and his observation of Welsh life makes for side splitting comedy, there is always tangible audience anticipation as his lines are delivered we know the comedy will be there every time they are spoken and what a turn of phrase, taken from real life!
Bringing home the new girlfriend for the first time to meet his parents Daniel Thomas as Norman played this part very well. A natural performance with good pace, showing stress and squirming discomfort admirably as his girlfriend Susan a many faceted performance by Abi Hodges of this voracious young lady brought out every aspect of this wonderful character with superb light and shade. Michael Fleming his experience shone through, as the Dad, Cyril and his baldness hang up created great humour with good support from Chery Williams as his long suffering wife Nancy.
Deciding on a Frank Vickery play is a dead cert for success no wonder they are ever popular thank you and well done EVODS!
