As many societies will know MTI offered free licences to any company who chose to perform All Together Now over the weekend 12th to 14th November 2021, this was done as a way to get everyone back on to the stage and doing what we love best.
Whitby Area Musical Theatre Company was one of the ones who made the decision to perform this piece of theatre and I would suspect everyone in the audience was very pleased they had done so.
The show opened with an introduction from a member of MTI to welcome everyone in the audience as well as giving a background on their reasoning behind making the offer.
Rosie Abel acted as Co-ordinator and Compere for the evening, introducing not only the members on stage but also giving a background to the songs themselves as well as to the history of their society.
The programme consisted of various music, opening with Be Our Guest from Beauty & The Beast and was able to show of the versatility of the cast, they also chose Consider Yourself from Oliver which was loved by everyone.
There were also some lovely solo performances which included Meadowlark which is a beautiful piece from The Baker’s Wife. Whitby were also able to show off their younger members when they sang When I Grow Up from Matilda, it was excellent.
One highlight of the production was the presentation of the Ken and Katrina Butler Award, Ken and Katrina were two members of the society who sadly passed away earlier this year, the award was the society’s way of remembering this couple as well as celebrating their lives.
The finale of the show was a selection of songs from Hairspray with the full cast including the kids and culminating with one of the guys in full drag as Edna Turnblad.
Thank you, Whitby, for a very entertaining evening, here’s to your next production now that you have made the first step on to The Pavilion Stage.
