This is a musical using the songs of Elvis Presley in a story based on Shakespeare’s Twelfth night. A motorbike riding, guitar playing lad arrives in a sleepy American town
Chad played by Tom Evans gave the role 110% and looked to be thoroughly enjoying the performance. He anchored the show with confidence, strong performance and great vocals.
Natalie played Zoe Phillips, equally at home as girl or boy! delivered a polished performance right from the start together with a real professional clarity in her voice.Strong performance. Excellent stage presence.
Sylvia played by Deborah James gave an experienced and insightful performance as the cafe owner Sylvia, singing tellingly ‘There’s Always Me’. Never fails to deliver.
Lorraine played by Mia Edwards was bubbly and determined, good character, strong vocals, great stage presence and great dance ability.
Jim played by Derek Williams gave some great comedy moments. An experienced actor, strong performance.
Dennis played by James Dyer won every ones heart as the lovesick Dennis trying, but failing to announce his love for Natalie. This part was made for James, excellent performance.
Dean Hyde played by Elis Myers-Sleight conveyed the dilemma of obedience to his mother or following young love with ease. Strong performance, good stage presence. One to watch in the future.
Miss Sandra played by Sarah Knight is a good character actress and I loved the physicality that she brought to this role, good comedy timing and used her physicality to add to the comedic effect. Good vocals, strong performance.
Mayor Matilda Hyde played by Julie Griffiths commanded the stage as the snooty, domineering mayor but was happy to let down her guard when she received a proposal of marriage. Strong performance, good stage presence.
Sherriff Earl played by Adrian Thomas was unable to get a word in edgeways, he was a silent partner until he exploded in angry frustration before confessing his love for Matilda. Good performance, good stage presence.
Although the Principals drove this production the work of the chorus is not to be overlooked. they were energetic and remained focused and enthused throughout.
The set by Scenic Projects Ltd was excellent. Lighting by James Thomas complimented the production greatly. Costumes by Ace Costumes were spot on.
Direction by Derek Williams produced some excellent moments of good theatre. Choreography by Julie Griffiths reflected of the time period and it enabled the dancers to be showcased in a way that was appropriate without distracting from the action. Musical Direction by Sioned Evans, Great sound, a really well balanced mix.
The production was a pleasure to watch. The audience were certainly most appreciative.
