Another new show in the North East, District 6, and if you are a fan of Elvis Presley, this was certainly a show for you. The show opened with Jailhouse Rock, then onto Hearbreak Hotel, followed by One Night With You, Teddy Bear/Hound Dog, It's Now or Never, Love Me Tender, Blue Suede Shoes, Don't be Cruel, Can't Help Falling In Love and many more from the Elvis repertoire.
The story is set over a twenty-four hour period in Midwestern USA during the summer of 1955. Chad, a guitar-playing, hip swivelling stranger rides into a You-never-heard-of-it-town on his motorcycle, which actually appeared on stage. Is he the Devil in Disguise in his Blue Suede Shoes? The music is set to a hilarious story that is an adaptation of William Shakespeare's Twelfth Night. The arrival of Chad soon caused many of the individuals in the town to fall in love with the wrong people. Jim, who recently lost his wife, secretly thinks about dating again, but finds love in an unusal place. Two teenagers try to weather a forbidden love and Chad soon catches the eye of the town's mechanic, Natalie, who dreams of finding love and seeking a life on the open road but could she be heading for Heartbreak Hotel? Chad however, only has eyes for the town's intellectual Museum Curator Niss Sandra who has fallen for a mysterious new man in town. The show is basically about finding love in the most unusual places.
Congratulations to Josh Holliday (Chad) - he certainly gave a good interpretation of the part, and also sang well well. Adam Walker (Dennis) - a very different character from Arthur Kipps last year - he has really come on in the last six years. Ian Brady (Jim ), he too was a completely different character from the eccentric English character of Chitterlow in "Half a Sixpence" to a Midwest, USA small town widower. Dylan Lambert (Dean) did very well in his first production for Woodseats. Georgina Willows ( Natalie/Ed) played both characters with great aplomb and her singing whether solo, duet or with the ensemble was a delight to listen to. Danielle Smith (Miss Sandra), Rebecca Southwell (Sylvia) and Ellie Needham (Lorraine) really worked hard on the interpretation of their individual characters.Congratulations to Mike Richardson (Earl - the Town Sheriff) and Gillian Langley (Matilda - the Town Mayor). Well done to the Ensemble - they all looked as though they were enjoying being part of the show.
Well done to Mary Newey (Director) - the presentation was excellent and the comedy had good timing. Congratulations to Jamie Brown (Musical Director) and his Musicians - they made a great sound. Amber Parry did very well with the choreography - there were several "slick" numbers. The set, lighting and sound worked very well - the scene changing was very good - 19 scene changes.
Well done!
