Leesa Agar is making her debut as the director for this production of Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll, assisted by Sally Whyte, and what a great job they did. There is an excellent cast in this colourful well-known story with larger than life characters. The Alice Band directed by Valerie Rossiter played the background music and between scenes.

The costumes are bright, and very good, the set is very effective, and cleverly adapts from one scene to the next, and I really liked the turning background as Alice went down the hole, beautifully painted by Bethany Redwood-Pain, scenic artist.

Erica Lakin plays Alice. She gave a lovely portrayal and grew in confidence as the story unfolded. Teresa Miller played the White Rabbit, constantly rushing around trying not to be late.

There are strong performances from everyone, but I liked Lucie Evans as the Queen of Hearts, along with Tim Mabbett as the King.  Julie Sturmey is the Mad Hatter with Steven Reynolds as The March Hare, Sasha Joy Staines as the Dormouse.

The Tweedledum and Tweedledee (Nathan East & Harriet Cairnes) scene was great fun; there was also an interesting caterpillar played by Nathan. The Cheshire Cat was very cheeky played by Charlie Lakin. Peter Ansell as both Humpty Dumpty and the Mock Turtle was also very good. The younger members of the group also worked hard on their characterisations. Other characters also help to bring Lewis Carroll’s story to life.

The audience all enjoyed the evening as did I, some of the younger children took to sitting on the floor just in front of the stage laughing and pointing to the actors totally entranced by what they were seeing.

Well done to you all.
