There was no shortage of characters portrayed in this wonderful story and the Company did their utmost to bring each character to life. There were some excellent performances and the director used the stage area to this advantage, including the auditorium itself.

I think at some time in their lives, every girl fancies herself as Alice in this popular story, and this enviable role fell to Katie Clough, who gained confidence as the show progressed. She was partnered by Shauna Brown as Jack. Landon Sweeney thoroughly enjoyed his role as Dame Cookie whilst Gabbey Allen gave a sterling performance as White Rabbit. Another excellent characterization from Eirlys Walker as Queen, who played the whole piece on her knees, strutting from one end of the stage to the other throughout the performance – wow! This was a real challenge, but Eirlys is so versatile on stage, she was faultless in script and score and her timing was immaculate. Rachel Jones, as well as Choreographer, gave a good interpretation as Hatter, whilst Zoe Thompson commanded one’s attention as March Hare as soon as she took the stage. Imogen Walker was perfectly cast as Dormouse. I particularly enjoyed the contribution from Cerys Jones as Cat, she really got into the character and Kaitlyn Kelly did all that was required as Caterpillar.

The comedy element was in the hands of Liam Rogerson as Tweedle Dum and Daniel Jones as Tweedle Dee. Both came up trumps with their performances resulting in a host of laughs from the audience, and Daniel must be congratulated for his efforts as ‘rapper’, to the delight of everyone. The role of King was in the capable hands of Ruth Purton who never fails to please whilst Olwen Jones was a convincing Ms Hackett in charge of all her orphans. The minor roles and chorus consisted of orphans, cards, bunnies and ghosts, each member knew what was expected of them and what their task was in each scene. Good costumes and hair styles. I would like to have seen a few more props on stage, and cues were not picked up by the mics on some entrances, thus some script was lost. Nevertheless a good effort which was appreciated by an enthusiastic audience. Thanks very much and here’s to your next production.
