This year’s pantomime Alice in Wonderland was written by director Natalie Ann, who had created lots of roles for the large cast. I was interested to read the background to her decision to write for the group and to chat to her about it afterwards. I have not seen Alice in Wonderland performed as a pantomime before, but this was a lively production, skilfully adapted with lots of parts giving the chance for all of the group to shine.

Working together, with the cast, the director had created a wonderfully magical imaginary world with talking animals and warring playing cards. There were some great characterisations from both the youngsters and the adults and some polished performances. The show had been well cast with plenty of opportunity for everyone to have a role and shine on stage. The cast had developed good chemistry and well-developed relationships between the characters. I particularly liked that each of the adult principals had a youngster as side kick or team to support them. The principals gave strong performances and were very well supported by the minor principals and ensemble.  There was some lovely rapport going on with the audience eliciting lots of audience participation. The in-house set had been creatively designed to give colourful locations for Wonderland. This combined with imaginative lighting and sound added to the audience experience.
