Alice in Wonderland written in 1865 by Lewis Carroll, is still very popular with adults and children alike. This adaptation takes us through fourteen episodes from Alice falling down the rabbit hole to finding her way home and meeting all the well-known characters along the way in this madcap an satirical version. The cast take on the roles of the unnatural creatures, all singing and dancing a quadrille.
Co-Directors Kevin Jackson and Harry Rowbotham (also a very creative Technical Director) are to be congratulated on a brilliant production with an excellent cast.
This was a very imaginative production, not only in the way it was directed and acted but also in the design of the set, special effects, lighting, sound and costumes. The concept was truly amazing. A very ingenious rabbit hole transformed into a portal which was used to introduce the characters. With flick of a catch it transformed again into whatever the scene required as Alice journeyed through the story. It left you in no doubt who was who and where we were. Loved the Cheshire Cat scene, very effective with use of ultraviolet lights.
Hannah Thomas, who took on the role of Alice, was superb and never strayed from this very well-known and demanding character. The nervous White Rabbit was played to perfection by Will Couchman. Likewise Mark Kenny as Queen of Hearts and whose evil actions are vitally important to the plot.
The other eleven members of the cast excelled in their characters and it would be unfair of me to mention them all individually. They took on a multitude of roles and also changed the set and props as they went along to the music, which was playing throughout the production.
The dialogue and the scene changes both moved along with pace.
Congratulations to everyone involved with this production. This is a very talented group and I know that a production of this standard takes hours of rehearsals, careful planning and hard work.
Thank you for the invite and hospitality and I look forward to your next production.
