What a setting, an open air production in the grounds of Caldicot Castle, and the weather was lovely.

The story is well know and this version was adapted by Amy and Gareth for this Society,  The songs were a mixture of new material, show and modern songs and it worked very well. The sound, apart from the very occasional breeze, was excellent and we could all hear every word and note. Not an easy task in such a venue.

Alice (Mia Norman) did very well in such a large role, and had good diction and a lovely voice. The White Rabbit (Will Jones) as always, a very good performance, The Cheshire Cat ( Millie Postle) was, as in her own song “Fabulous Baby”. There was a Johhny Depp moment with Oliver Skinner as The Mad Hatter, but he did make the part his own as did Jo Postle as the Queen of Hearts. Nick Skinner as King of Hearts sang one of my favourite songs (Who I’d Be from Shrek)

All of the chorus was involved in some small role and all appeared to be enjoying themselves, which transcended through to the audience.

The principles and chorus singing as very impressive, and they must have all worked very hard. Well done to Gareth and the band.

I know from experience how difficult open air productions can be and, there were a few little hiccups, but I had a great afternoon, and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Well done, you have a lovely society which improves every time I see you.
