Aladdin got off to a great start with "One Short Day in the City of Peking". The Chorus had great costumes, as did the Principals, throughout the show. Extremely colourful and pleasing to the eye. Super scenery with great attention to detail. Every one of the chorus put their all into it and did not let up for one second. Abanazer gave a good performance as the evil villain, with great facial expressions, and really invited the enthusiastic "boos". His opposite number, the Slave of the Ring was skilful and graceful. We just knew that good would come up trumps in the end to help a happy ending coming to pass.
Aladdin looked every inch the 'slap my thigh' Principal Boy and sang well alongside the lovely voice of his great love, Lotus Blossom.
Widow Twankey made a cracking dame, I am not easily convinced by a female Dame, but in this case it worked very well indeed. A typical Dame with amazing costumes, and delivering the jokes well with good timing. Wishee Washee had the audience eating out of his hand and had a great singing voice.
Emperor Chow Mein looked the part and was to the 'manor born' in this role, holding his head up high.
Grand Vizier had that air and authority that commanded the stage, So-Shy was great along with an equally great accent, the Genie of the lamp did a splendid job along with the Mummy.
The music and songs that were chosen complemented the show wonderfully well. The dancing, performed by the Lyme School of Ballet, was superb and added glamour and beauty to a most enjoyable show The pantomime sparkled from start to finish, with the whole cast committed to delivering an excellent entertainment. All working together beautifully. This was my first visit to Lyme Regis Pantomime as Janet Elworthy could not make it, her loss my gain. It was a real treat so thank you to all at LRPS especially Sarah Causley Congratulations all round.
