Once again Hawes started Christmas with their annual Pantomime, the ever popular Aladdin.  The capacity audiences were once again treated to a very well produced and acted show, with  many good performances.  It is not very often that the villain is the star of the show, but Graham Di Duca, who played Abanazar, was booed every time he appeared  but it didn’t deter him from his excellent performance.  Gillian Alderson, who played the leading role of Aladdin, was equally as good. Her lady-in-waiting, Notsoshy, was brilliantly played by Carolyn Teasdale who was completely at home throughout.  Wishee Washee was well played by Kory Spink.  The comedy was in the hands of the two policemen, Sergeant Chop and PC Suey, and was very well played by Kian Teasdale and Julia Di  Duca who got laughs every time they came on stage.  The Princess was delightfully played by Amy Swales, and she got her man in the end.  Colin Tindill played Widow Twankey, an unusual part for Colin, but he was very convincing and did very well.

The  Emperor and Empress was very well played indeed by Michael and Hazel Waldman.  They really put the Regal into their parts.  All pantomimes have to have someone to keep order, and the Slave of the Ring was very well done by Julia Waring. The Genie of the Lamp was very well played indeed by Ade Janke.  The Chorus line was really excellent, featuring plenty of up-and-coming stars for the future. With a lot of youngsters on stage for the first time, they really did perform well, with good singing and dancing.  The scenery was really excellent, very professionally presented, and all hand painted by the members.  We had some excellent lighting and good sound effects.  Hawes people should be very proud of the Society who every Christmas really put themselves out to get the festivities off to a great start.  At the end of the show the Noda Councillor, Gordon Richardson, and the Regional Rep Peter Parlour presented awards to members of the cast and backstage staff  for their services to the Society.  The one man who deserves praise is Colin Bailey who, along with Jennifer Fawcett and Joanne Head produce the pantomimes every year.  They deserve all credit for keeping the Society together, and Colin has an ideal combo to keep the music flowing.  Once again Hawes, well done for yet another excellent Pantomime.
